LoPro® wood-protection system

Innovative technology that extends grid service life by at least 15 years. Protect your infrastructure from moisture and rot in the most critical ground zone.

Product

Protective bandages at the highest level

The LoPro® system (Long-term Protection) developed by induo® offers innovative wood-protection bandages that work on the basis of a double - active and passive - protective barrier. They use an extremely resistant membrane of modified bitumen and prevent the penetration of large quantities of moisture and, at the same time, the escape of preservative constituents into the environment.

Applied precisely at the critical ground-air zone, the bandages permanently separate your wood poles from harmful ground moisture and oxygen. This is a certified solution for demanding pole systems in power supply, telecommunications and for agriculture.

LoPro® wood-protection bandages at the pole base - induo®
Technology

Double protective barrier. How does LoPro® work?

Rotten poles lead to cost-intensive replacement measures, long installation times, shutdowns and complex logistics.

Our system addresses precisely this weak point: through effective physical protection in the particularly vulnerable ground-transition area, the service life of the wood pole is significantly extended. The wood is reliably protected against harmful soil influences, while at the same time the leaching of the wood preservatives is reduced.

3 Key Advantages

Passive barrier (bitumen seal)

The highly resistant outer coating of polymer-modified bitumen forms a self-vulcanising, crack-bridging protective and insulating layer. It adapts flexibly to different pole diameters and enables efficient use of material. LoPro® is solvent-free and reliably withstands all aggressive substances naturally occurring in the soil.

Quickly installed, permanently effective

Simple installation - flexible in use. LoPro® protective bandages are self-adhesive and can be applied directly to the pole without elaborate special equipment - both on newly installed wood poles and retrofitted on already existing installations. Thanks to its flexible processing, the barrier system reliably adapts to the pole surface and enables efficient installation even under demanding on-site conditions.

Groundwater protection

The LoPro® system works in both directions and sets new standards in environmental protection. On the one hand, it reliably prevents ground moisture from penetrating the wood. On the other hand, it completely blocks the leaching of the preservative into the surrounding soil and groundwater.

Range

LoPro® variant portfolio

LoPro® bandage variants - tailor-made protection for every project phase

We offer highly developed bandage solutions for every life cycle of your network infrastructure.

Whether for the initial equipping of new poles directly ex works or for the subsequent refurbishment of existing line networks in the field - we have the right variant for your requirement.

LoPro® initial bandages - on-site installation - induo®

LoPro® initial bandages & follow-up care bandages (standard variants)

This product line consists of a pure bitumen membrane and offers excellent passive moisture protection. It is the ideal, economical solution both for the preventive, complete protection of new poles and palisades and for regular network maintenance and follow-up care of existing installations.

Available versions:

  • Narrow version (width: 29 cm): Optimally suited for standard palisades, fence posts and smaller utility poles on flat terrain with little excavation.
  • Wide version (width: 48 cm): Developed for large infrastructure poles and heavily stressed structures, to guarantee large-area protection well above and below the ground-air line.
LoPro® protective collar - induo®

LoPro® protective collar

The self-adhesive and UV-resistant LoPro® protective collar is coated with a strongly adhering bitumen membrane and serves as the clean upper finish of the pole in the ground-transition area.

The outer metal coating forms a robust protective layer and acts as a physical barrier against mechanical damage in the field.

Standard width: 30 cm

Developed for the secure finishing of the LoPro® system in the ground-transition area: the LoPro® protective collar is today part of the standard equipment of all new pole deliveries and is supplied ready-mounted ex works as part of the initial bandage.

Application and delivery form

LoPro® protects impregnated round wood poles, hop poles, telecommunications poles and other wooden components in the particularly vulnerable ground-transition area.

Installation takes place at the plant before delivery. Unlike simple wrappings, LoPro® encloses the entire pole base up to 30 cm above the ground-transition area. As a result, LoPro® protects the entire material-endangered area and at the same time prevents the migration of existing preservatives.

The impregnated poles are delivered to the construction site fully ready for installation with the LoPro® initial equipment and can be installed directly.

Mode of action

The LoPro® initial equipment (Long-term Protection) consists of a self-adhesive, permanently resistant sealing membrane based on plastic-modified bitumen. Above the ground transition, a metal-coated LoPro® collar additionally encloses the pole and forms the finish of the barrier system.

The penetration of larger quantities of moisture into the ground-contact areas of the pole, as well as the escape of preservative constituents into the environment, are thereby permanently prevented. The self-vulcanising and crack-bridging barrier membrane reliably shields the pole from harmful environmental influences.

LoPro® is resistant to aggressive substances naturally occurring in the soil, solvent-free, environmentally friendly and does not pollute groundwater.

Occupational safety

LoPro® pole initial equipment contains no health-hazardous constituents or constituents subject to labelling. Nevertheless, it is recommended to wear suitable protective clothing such as protective gloves and safety shoes during processing.

Disposal

The LoPro® pole initial equipment can be disposed of under the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) code 08 04 10 “adhesive and sealant waste” or 17 03 02 “bituminous mixtures”.

The waste codes mentioned represent a recommendation based on the intended use of the product. Depending on the specific use and the respective disposal conditions, other waste codes may be applicable.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the LoPro® system

To the full FAQ
What is LoPro® used for?

LoPro® is used to protect the ground-air zone of wood poles. This area is considered particularly critical, as moisture, oxygen and soil-borne microorganisms can act on the wood simultaneously here.

Under what conditions must rolls be stored on the construction site?

Storage conditions for LoPro® bandages The rolls must be protected from direct sunlight, frost and moisture. Storage must be carried out upright (vertical) at an ambient temperature above +5 °C. If these conditions are observed, optimum suitability for installation is guaranteed for up to 12 months.

What does preservative reservoir mean?

Thanks to the LoPro® system, the wood preservation is better retained in the particularly vulnerable area of the pole. This creates a preservative reservoir precisely where the pole is subjected to the greatest stress from moisture and soil organisms.

Can I order poles with LoPro® wood-protection bandages already installed?

Yes. We recommend ordering round wood poles with factory pre-installed LoPro® bandages as initial-installation protection. Factory installation saves valuable installation time on the construction site and guarantees an absolutely flawless application under optimum factory conditions.
